First Circular 1

First Circular

The 19th International Symposium on Small Particles and Inorganic Clusters (ISSPIC-19)

Dear Colleagues:

We are pleased to announce the 19th International Symposium on Small Particles and Inorganic Clusters (ISSPIC-19) to be held at the Hangzhou International Conference Center in the beautiful city of Hangzhou, China from Sunday 12 August through Friday 17 August 2018. We warmly invite you to join us at Hangzhou.

First Circular 2

ISSPIC-19 will be held at the Hangzhou International Conference Center (HICC), located within a 10-minute subway ride from downtown Hangzhou. HICC was also one of the official sites of the 2016 G20 meeting hosted by China. The golden-ball exterior of HICC is now a landmark of the city of Hangzhou. The International Conference Hall of HICC features 600 theater-style seats, providing an ideal venue for ISSPIC-19.

Hangzhou is one of the most attractive tourist destinations in China with its famous West Lake and beautiful surroundings. The city of Hangzhou covers 683 square kilometers and has a population of 1.69 million people. Hangzhou is one of the cradles of the Chinese civilization. Humans were known to have lived and prospered in this land 4700 years ago, called "Liangzhu Culture". Hangzhou, famous for its historical and cultural heritages, is one of the seven ancient Chinese capitals. The city has a history of more than 2200 years since it was established as a county by the First Emperor Qin.

Hangzhou is easily accessible, within just one hour, by high-speed rail from Shanghai. There are frequent high-speed trains between Shanghai and Hangzhou (roughly every 15 minutes). There are daily direct flights from Shanghai to all major cities in the world. The Hangzhou International Airport, situated 27 kilometers from the city center, is also accessible from Amsterdam, Tokyo, Singapore, and Hong Kong. Domestic flights and railway connections from Hangzhou include all major cities of China, making it very convenient for additional travels within China either before or after the conference.

ACCOMMODATION

Block reservations will be made in several hotels of variable pricing and comfort level, all located within walking distance from the conference site, including a deluxe hotel annexes to the conference venue.

More information on booking accommodations will be forthcoming in the 2nd Circular along with a call for abstracts on March 1, 2018.

SCOPE

The ISSPIC conference started in 1976 in Lyon, France and has been held every two years between Europe, America, and Asia since 1988. The ISSPIC meeting has evolved into a leading international conference on atomic clusters, nanostructures, and nanoscience.

In keeping with the tradition of the ISSPIC meeting, the 19th symposium will be devoted to presentations of new results, emerging trends, and perspectives pertaining to the physics and chemistry of clusters, nanostructures, and nanomateirals. The conference is aimed at providing an interdisciplinary forum for discussions on the latest fundamental and methodological aspects, as well as application and technologically oriented developments in nanoscience.

ISSPIC-19 primarily covers the following content:

  • Atomic and molecular clusters
  • Nanoparticles/nanocrystals/nanostructures
  • Supported, embedded and ligated clusters and nanoparticles
  • Cluster and nanoparticle assemblies
  • Other emerging nanometer-scale systems
  • Structure and thermodynamics
  • Electronic structure and quantum effects
  • Spectroscopy and dynamics
  • Reactivity and catalysis
  • Electron correlation: magnetism and superconductivity
  • Optical properties and plasmonics
  • Biotechnological and medical applications: imaging and sensors
  • Environmental studies
  • Device-oriented topics
  • Energy-related topics

Papers on these topics are encouraged. More information on submission of abstract will be given in the 2nd Circular.
